Dry Needling

Dry needling training is built upon the fact that the physiotherapist is one of main pillars of modern neuro musculoskeletal healthcare. It is recognised that the extensive training the physiotherapist undertakes at university level is key to the ability to train and be competent and safe in the judicious use of dry needling for myofascial trigger points. It is recognised that the physiotherapist is a scientist that adheres to the code of ethics of the designated professional bodies such as the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (www.iscp.ie) or other World Confederation for Physical Therapy Group (www.wcpt.org)

The physiotherapist has undertaken in Ireland the following average* hours of training etc. This academic training is similar across professionally trained physiotherapists / physical therapists who are members of the WCPT groups

Total Professional Training            2500 hours

Anatomy & Cadaver Studies          200+

Clinical Practice - Supervised        1000 hours

* These figures may vary depending on the individual degree but are generally standardised across WCPT member groups
