Evaluation

Physiotherapy evaluation allows scientific clinical testing to assess the patient’s problem(s). The aim is to identify the causative factors involved, therefore directing the treatment to affect the outcome.

Typical Assessment may include:

Subjective:     What the patient is complaining of?
                        What is the History of the complaint?

Medical History etc.
                        Relevant other information
                        Patient’s goal

Objective:       Posture; Range of Motion; Flexibility;
                        Strength; Function
                        Palpation – consistency and feel of
                        muscle, fascia, ligament, tendon, joint,
                        nerural systems pain etc.
                        Special tests

Analysis:        Amalgamate Subjective, Objective information with the knowledge base and experience of the physiotherapist to form an impression of the patients problem(s). Consider differential diagnoses.

Plan:                Plan a course of treatment that aims at addressing the patients needs and goals. Refer to the appropriate Clinician as required e.g.: General Practitioner.

Reassess:      Reassess the clinical indicators and the affects of intervention
